Laurent, Yves, General Manager, Lyonbiopôle (France)
Born in Brussels and holding a DEA (French post graduate degree obtained after five years of university education) in Bio physical chemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology, Yves Laurent was previously the Director of the Christophe Mérieux Center - Center of R&D in Molecular Biology and Microsystems of bioMérieux- in Grenoble.
He was also formerly the Deputy Director of the Department of Advanced Technology of the same company. From 1994 to 2003, Yves Laurent ran his own company: as the CEO, he set up and developed Genome express (DNA sequencing), which has become Cogenics today. He also has a solid "field" experience in sales, acquired previously with Sanofi and Applied Biosystems.
A global center of excellence in vaccines and diagnostics, Lyonbiopôle, accredited as a world competitive cluster by the French State on July 12th, 2005, aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of human and animal infectious diseases. This expertise ranges from diagnostics and prevention to treatment, with the development of innovative delivery systems.
The French State has given the country’s competitive clusters a dual mission: to drive both innovation and the economy. To fulfill this mission, Lyonbiopôle has a strong asset: it is a cluster focused on the fight against infectious diseases relying on a trio of key players: firms, research organizations and training centers managed by leading firms in their respective fields (sanofi pasteur, Merial, bioMérieux and BD) in cooperation with highly-committed SMBs and start-ups.
