Deruy, Marcel, President, Lyon Place Financière et Tertiaire (Lyon, France)

An engineer trained at ENSAM and a graduate of the Centre des Hautes Études de la Construction, Marcel Deruy was headed for a career in the family business. Instead, in 1966, he joined Socotec (Société de Contrôle de la Construction). In 1972, he was appointed Regional Director of Comptoir Central de Matériel d’Entreprise (CCME). He stayed at the CCME, which in the meantime became Compagnie du BTP, until 1984, leaving it to create the Sofaris regional office. Since 1997, Marcel Deruy has worked at BDPME, which would become Oséo, holding the position of Director of the Southeast Network. Parallel to this, he is a director of several structures, particularly Avenir Entreprises and Rhône-Alpes Création (venture capital firms) and Entreprises Rhône-Alpes International (ERAI). He currently is a director of Banque Populaire and Oséo. After many years dedicated to the Commercial Court of Lyon, he became President of the Honorary Chamber in 2003 and then President of Lyon Place Financière et Tertiaire in 2007. Entrepreneurship remains his passion: he thus is President of the Scientific Committee of the Salon des Entrepreneurs de Lyon Rhône-Alpes and President of European Cities Entrepreneurship Ranking (ECER). Involved in organizations like Medef (Mouvement des entreprises de France) and the Confédération générale des petites et moyennes entreprises (CGPME), Marcel Deruy also teaches at the Université de Lyon and EM LYON Business School.

Created in 1987 with the intention of increasing Lyon’s influence as a regional, national and European financial centre, Lyon Place Financière et Tertiaire contributes to promoting the region’s financial service and training professionals to entrepreneurs and investors. It offers a forum for exchange and reflection to favour mutual enrichment of the sector’s professionals, through many events and workgroups. The organization has originated many projects, including those dedicated to governance, IFRS and transition planning in Rhône-Alpes. Strengthened by 250 member structures and over 20 years of existence, Lyon Place Financière et Tertiaire is recognized as really representative of the region’s economic and financial players.
