Louis Carbonneau is the General Manager of IP Licensing and Ventures, in the Intellectual Property & Licensing Group for Microsoft Corporation. Mr. Carbonneau is primarily responsible for the outbound licensing activities of Microsoft Research Technologies. Prior to that, Mr. Carbonneau was GM for the International Intellectual Property team at Microsoft where he managed the worldwide IP and transactional legal teams providing support for all Research groups worldwide, for the Office of the CTO, the Advanced Strategies Group and for all non-US product development activities around the world. Mr. Over the years Carbonneau has worked on several major partnerships with various academic institutions around the world.
Mr. Carbonneau is a Montréal native and attended both McGill and University of Montréal, where he obtained his law degree. He joined Microsoft in 1995 as General Counsel of then their subsidiary Softimage Inc., a graphic animation software development company. Prior to that, Mr. Carbonneau was part of the Montréal office of Smart & Biggar, the largest IP boutique firm in Canada, where he handled major IP litigations, as well as worked on various IP matters. He has pursued his career at Microsoft’s headquarters in Seattle, WA, since 1998.
