Viel, Carl, General Manager, Montréal InVivo (Montréal)
Carl Viel joined the Montréal InVivo team on June 4, 2007. After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Mr. Viel was hired by Hoffmann-La Roche, for which he worked for nearly nine years. At the time of his departure, he held the position of Manager, Government Affairs and Reimbursement for Québec and Atlantic Provinces. In 1999, he began working for GlaxoSmithKline as Director, Government Affairs and Sales and, in 2001, he was promoted to Director, Corporate Affairs for Eastern Canada, a position he still held before joining Montréal InVivo.
Carl Viel was Co-President of Rx&D from 1996 to 1999. He currently serves on the Metropolitan Montréal Life Sciences Committee since 2005 and acts as Chairman of the Biopharmaceutical Innovation Council since 2007. Mr. Viel is currently pursuing a university certificate in corporate governance at Université Laval.
Montréal InVivo is the brand name for Metropolitan Montréal’s life sciences and health technology cluster, a group of over 620 organizations, including 150 research centres and 80 corporate subsidiaries. The Montréal InVivo cluster ranks 8th among North America’s large metropolitan areas in number of jobs, hiring over 41,000 skilled workers. This creative cluster includes four universities and ranks first in Canada for the number of research centres and total funding of university research.
